NARSUS

Introduction

This is a page about using Risus to play Story Now. The purpose of this endeavor is to use this Nar-ified Risus (Narsus?) as the drama chassis for a playtest of the Lost-alike card game layer. The goal is to have a game that can create stories in a particular genre; this genre doesn't have a name, but is described as

Cain Ashford

Background

Cain Ashford made the leap through space to Persepolis Station from a junk hauler out of Iron Ring whose captain he’d convinced to take him there by giving him information on the location of some prime salvage. Making his way through the airlock, he said a quick Pathic prayer thankful that the life support was still on so that he wouldn’t have to run about in a exo-suit getting it all working again. Suddenly one of his visions came up…

Sorcerer-Kings

Sorcerer-Kings is a dark sword & sorcery setting, where the lands are dominated by city-states run by the eponymous rulers who hold iron sway over the lands through their dark magic. Play began in the city-state of Baan Tash, run by a cabal of Sorcerer-Kings that few ever see from their spire above the city. Employing an army of the dead, and a hierarchy of priests and secret police, they ensure that their populace continues to be a source of power for their magic.

Will

Each character has a fund of Will points, arbitrarily set to start at 9 (pending playtest). The main (possibly only) use of Will is to activate Descriptors. If a character ever has 0 Will points, they are out of the scene and must have a Refreshment Scene to restore their Will fund before they can participate in other future scenes.

Sorcerer-Kings = Actual Play of the Loop

Rules

You play it in the normal way: there's a GM who does situation prep, scene framing, and plays the NPCs. Everyone else plays a character. You need a bunch of d10s; the game uses only d10s.

The Project

Every character has a project. Projects are defined by a few things:

First, the alignment - Law, or Chaos. A Project of Law is a commitment to preserving something the way it is. Law represents order, predictability, the old, and static forces; it is the fundamental conservative principle. A Project of Chaos is a commitment to change something. Chaos represents disorder, randomness, the new, and movement; it is the fundamental liberal principle.
